Black Mirror – Gottfried Helnwein

Preiss Fine Arts will present the photo art of exceptional Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein for the first time worldwide in a sales exhibition. Notorious highlights of his work over the last 20 years, pieces from der Untermensch (The Subhuman Being) series, controversial self-portraits, and portraits of personalities ranging from Andy Warhol to Arnold Schwarzenegger will be included in the exhibition.  Helnwein is one of the most renowned yet also most controversial artists in the German-speaking world. Recurring motifs in Helnwein’s process of artistic creation are violence, pain, and injury. Helnwein’s art knows no taboos. His works touch the viewer deeply, possibly even going so far as to evoke disgust. In any case, the observer will not be left cold.
